HISTORIC ROUTE

Cascais - Lisbon

Boat Tour Rio Tejo – Historic Lisbon

On this boat tour on the Tagus River, we set off from Cascais Marina, sailing east towards the meeting of the Atlantic Ocean and the Tagus River, on a real journey through time to discover the history of Portugal, both ancient and contemporary.

We leave behind the Estoril Coast, full of imposing fortresses, with one last look at the majestic São Julião da Barra Fort, which seems to watch over the modern Carcavelos University Campus.

As we enter the banks of the Tagus, we notice the Algés Control Tower, which is leaning over and was inaugurated in 2001. Designed to control an extensive maritime and river area, this modern structure seeks to occupy its space, like other buildings that have been erected throughout history in the riverside area, between the fortresses of the Tagus River and the Vasco da Gama Bridge.

Further on, we see the Champalimaud Foundation, followed by the monument in memory of the soldiers who fought overseas and the Belém Tower, surrounded by decorations of the Portuguese Arms and full of implicit nationalism. 450 years of history, side by side.

We also pass the Monument to the Discoveries, the Jerónimos Monastery and the Electricity Museum, heading towards the modern building of the Museum of Art, Architecture and Technology (MAAT), before going back in history once again.

The route where the Atlantic Ocean and the Tagus River meet, and where the past meets the present.
